“Freedom Convoy” organizer sentenced to house arrest after time in jail

One organizer of Canada’s 2022 “Freedom Convoy” has been sentenced to house arrest after spending time in jail.

47-year-old Pat King was convicted of five criminal charges, including mischief, counseling to commit mischief, counseling to obstruct a public or peace officer, and two counts of disobeying a court order, back in November 2024. King spent several months in jail before his sentencing on Wednesday, February 19th, 2025.

According to BBC, King is the first of three main organizers of the 2022 convoy in protest of Covid-19 measures. The other two main organizers, Tamara Lich and Chris Barber, will face sentencing next month.

In court, King’s lawyers argued that police were to blame for the rising tensions during the convoy’s peaceful protest. King has since apologized for his role in the demonstration.

King was arrested on February 18th, 2022 and spent 5 months in jail before being released on bail. He spent another brief period behind bars for violating court-ordered rules regarding his social media usage.

King will spend three months on house arrest after being credited nine months for time already spent in jail.
