Homeless man takes off with bobtail truck after trucker leaves it running

A truck driver got his rig stolen after leaving it running in a hotel parking lot in Pennsylvania last month.

The incident happened on Monday, December 6th at the Rodeway Inn Hotel in Brookville Borough, Pennsylvania.

According to WTAJ, the truck driver went outside to the hotel parking lot to start his bobtail rig. The driver left it running to warm up while he went back inside of the hotel. 36-year-old homeless man, Colin Standefer, then allegedly climbed into the running rig and drove off towards Interstate 80.

Police were called, and officers were able to track the truck west on I-80 through a dash cam, and notified the Pennsylvania State Police about the stolen bobtail semi truck. The PSP located the semi truck and conducted a traffic stop.

Standefer was arrested, and police discovered that he had a DUI-related suspension of his license out of Indiana, and did not possess a CDL in any state.

Standefer was determined to be homeless, and was taken to the Jefferson County Prison with a $50,000 bail. He’s facing felony charges of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, along with misdemeanor charges of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.
