A truck driver has been arrested on murder charges in connection with a suspected road rage shooting in Virginia late last month.
On Thursday, February 13, Florida-based truck driver Tony Ray Williams, 55, was arrested by the Fort Pierce Police Department out of Florida on charges of Second Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony.
The charges were issued in connection with the death of Massachusetts-based truck driver Silvio Sobrinho, 58.
Around 11:30 p.m. on January 31, police responded to southbound I-295 at mile marker 25 in Henrico County, Virginia, and discovered Sobrinho dead in the cab of his truck from a gunshot wound.
Troopers believe that Sobrinho was driving a tractor trailer hauling a load of cars in the left lane of southbound I-295 when his vehicle was struck by a second semi truck traveling in the center lane, forcing Sobrinho’s truck off the road and into a guardrail.
After Sobrinho’s truck came to a stop against the guardrail, Virginia State Police said that the driver of the second semi truck pulled up alongside him and fired multiple rounds into the crashed truck.
A witness traveling north pulled off, found Sobrinho in the cab laying over the steering wheel, and called police. A trooper performed CPR but Sobrinho was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fatal shooting remains under investigation.
