A truck driver has been arrested after knocking a lineman to the ground because he ignored traffic control personnel in North Carolina.

The accident happened near Selma, North Carolina on Wednesday afternoon, October 29th. The truck driver was located and arrested on Thursday, October 30th.

According to ABC 11, repair technicians were working on a power line when the driver of a flatbed semi truck hauling a septic truck ignored traffic control personnel instructions to stop due to low hanging wires. The truck then became entangled in the wires, causing one lineman to fall to the ground.

The lineman, 29-year-old James P. Rudzki, died as a result of the fall, and the truck driver left the scene.

“Those trucks are very heavy. Hard to slow down,” one witness said of the incident. “If you don’t slow down before you get there, you won’t have time to slow down.”

The truck driver was located and arrested on Thursday. He has been identified as 44-year-old Ronald Thomas Mayo. He is charged with felony hit and run involving death, and is being held at the Johnston County Detention Center.
