A truck stop barber was sentenced to 40 years in prison for the murder of one of his clients related to fentanyl.
Victim Michael Crone was found dead in his home on County Road 490 in Tyler, Texas on October 5th, 2024. His cause of death was determined to be fentanyl toxicity.
According to CBS 19, 28-year-old Calvin Spencer, a barber at a local truck stop, was found to have sold M-30 opioids to Crone. He later admitted to selling the pills to Crone during an interview with police. Spencer was eventually arrested and police seized multiple handguns and 1,000 fentanyl tablets from his home.
Two other men were also arrested in connection to Crone’s death. Both men, Joshua Lee Williams and Jasson New, pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence with intent to impair an investigation. Both men were involved in destroying Crone’s phone in an attempt to hide evidence.
Williams was given five years probation with 500 community service hours. New was sentenced to 10 years’ probation with 600 community service hours.
Spencer was sentenced to 20 years and 40 years in prison on Monday, October 20th for murder and possession of a controlled substance. The sentences will run consecutively, so Spencer will serve a total of 40 years.
