Two of three bodies now claimed weeks after fatal u-turn crash

Two of the three bodies in the now infamous fatal u-turn crash have been claimed weeks after the initial accident. 

The August 12th accident in St. Lucie County, Florida claimed the lives of 30-year-old Herby Dufresne, 54-year-old Rodrigue Dor, and 37-year-old Faniola Joseph as they heeded home to Indiana after visiting family in Miami, where they had resided previously. The three people were reportedly Haitian immigrants, reported the Miami Herald.

The truck driver in the incident, 28-year-old Harjinder Singh, is facing felony charges after attempting an illegal u-turn in an area meant for official vehicle use only. Supporters of Singh, such as the organization Sikhs for Justice, have rallied to seek a fair trial for the truck driver who they say has been portrayed in an “unfair” manner. 

The bodies of the three victims went unclaimed until August 29th, when two of the three bodies were finally claimed by family members. The St. Lucie County Medical Examiner that it typically takes a few days, days to coordinate the release of bodies to family members, but may take weeks in some cases. However, the 17 day delay was an unusually long period of time, reported 12 News.

It is unclear which of the three bodies remains at the Medical Examiner’s office. If no one ever comes to claim the remaining body, the body will be held indefinitely.
