A deputy was left pinned and hanging upside down by his ankles after a semi truck slammed into his patrol car on the side of a Texas interstate on Monday.
The accident happened on September 8th on Southbound Highway 87 at the 98th Street overpass in Lubbock, Texas.
According to Fox 4 News, two Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office deputies were outside of the vehicles assisting a stranded motorist when a semi truck slammed into one of the stopped patrol cars. The force of the impact pushed the car into the deputies, pinning one against the wall and causing one to fall over the barrier wall. That deputy who fell was left hanging upside down by his ankles, which were left pinned against the wall by the patrol car.
Witnesses from a nearby gas station rushed over to help the two officers before first responders could arrive. People climbed onto the overpass to try to pull the deputy back up, while others went beneath the dangling deputy with a ladder. The people were eventually able to wrap a rope around the deputy and pull him back to safety before putting the patrol car in reverse and freeing both pinned deputies.
Both deputies were injured in the crash, but both are expected to make a full recovery. A civilian also sustained minor injuries in the crash. The crash is currently under investigation. It is unclear if the truck driver will face charges for the accident.
