Driver and company charged for extra long load of logs without proper securement or lighting

A truck driver and trucking company are charged after the driver was pulled over for hauling an extra long load of logs without the proper precautions.

The 29-year-old truck driver was pulled over on Paul Martin Drive near Pembroke in Ontario, Canada shortly before 6 p.m. Monday.

According to CBC News, police located the semi truck hauling an extra long load of logs after receiving a complaint about an oversize load. The tractor trailer and load was measured at over 31 meters, or nearly 102 feet long.

Police described the load as “unsafe due to excessive length, improper load securement, and the absence of required lighting to mark the rear of the load.”

The truck driver was handed several charges, which were not disclosed. The trucking company will also face charges for the incident.

“The OPP would like to remind drivers and owners of [transport trucks] to review all transportation and safety requirements prior to shipping oversized loads in order to help keep Ontario roadways safe,” OPP said in a news release.
