A truck driver admitted to police that he was suffering from mental illness after speeding and weaving through traffic while blasting music and resisting arrest.
The Bernalillo County, New Mexico incident happened back in February, but the police body cam footage was just released Wednesday, April 15th.
According to KRQE, Deputies were directing traffic on Interstate 40 near mile marker 170 following a crash that killed a fellow deputy during a traffic stop. Instead of going with the slow flow of traffic, truck driver Taur Mourzagaliev drove onto the left shoulder and cut drivers off. Mourzagaliev then sped past a patrol car with his headlights off and cut off more cars, forcing them to slam on their brakes, before moving onto the right shoulder.
Deputies gave chase and eventually pulled him over, but Mourzagaliev locked himself in the truck cab and ignored all orders to exit the truck. Deputies shattered the windows, but Mourzagaliev just started blasting loud music. Deputes eventually entered the cab, where they tased Mourzagaliev and pulled him outside.
In the body cam footage, Mourzagaliev can be heard speaking in Russian and telling officers he was suffering from mental illness.
Mourzagaliev is currently facing multiple misdemeanor charges and has pleaded not guilty to all. He is scheduled for trial next month. No further information has been released.
