Police say a speeding car was trying to get around a turning semi truck when it crashed into the cab, killing the truck driver inside.
The accident happened in Las Vegas, Nevada last week at Simmons Street and Citizen Avenue. This week, the family has come forward with more information on the personal life of the truck driver killed in the crash.
According to Fox12, 75-year-old Terry Bilton was at the end of his shift and was turning into an industrial complex when a speeding car tried to get around his truck as he slowed down. The car then crashed into the truck as it turned, causing a fiery wreck that killed Bilton and the motorist.
Both vehicles were fully engulfed in flames when first responders arrived. Bilton and the motorist were both pronounced dead at the scene. Bilton’s family found out about the crash when one of his granddaughters drove to the scene when the family couldn’t find him.
Now, Bilton’s family has come forward to share that Bilton was on his way to retirement and was planning a move to Big Bear, California with his wife when he was killed. Their house was already up for sale. His family says he was an amazing grandpa to 15 grandchildren, and call him “truly one of a kind.”
Police are still investigating the incident, and are asking for help in locating the driver of a gray Tesla car believed to have been in the area at the time of the crash. Police believe that driver may have witnessed the crash, and encourage them to contact the North Las Vegas Police Department.
The family has set up a GoFundMe to help with funeral expenses, legal fees, and other costs associated with his death.
