A former truck driver captured footage of a tractor trailer slamming into a line of cars stopped at a traffic light during a serious wreck over the weekend.
The accident happened on Saturday, May 9th at the intersection of US 70 and North Oak Forest Road in Goldsboro, North Carolina.
According to WITN, the truck driver failed to slow for the traffic stopped at the light and rear ended a line of six cars. 11 people were hurt in the accident. Five of those people were treated at the scene, while four were taken to a nearby hospital. Two were airlifted to a hospital in serious condition.
The truck driver in the accident has been identified as 46-year-old Alin Bosa. He is being charged with failure to reduce speed. The incident is still under investigation.
Former truck driver Rico McDowell says he was running errands at around 12:30 p.m. that day when he noticed the semi truck approaching the red light intersection at a high speed.
“I could see the cab coming up at a high rate speed so it caught my attention immediately. I’m a former truck driver so I look out for things like this. Before I knew it, he hit six cars,” he said.
McDowell says he jumped out of his car in hopes to help some of the people hurt in the crash.
“I was frantic. I was wanting to get to the people who was hurt the most… [one car] was completely just mangled — wrapped around — just metal everywhere and there was nothing that we could do on the scene as civilians because we didn’t have any equipment pulled out,” he said.
Footage from McDowell’s dash cam can be seen below.
