Indiana will revoke all CDLs held by illegal immigrants starting Wednesday

Indiana will revoke the commercial drivers licenses of anyone residing in the United States illegally starting on Wednesday.

Indiana’s new law will go into effect at midnight on Wednesday, April 1st and will revoke the CDLs of any Indiana CDL holder residing in the country illegally. The law also requires immigrants residing in the country lawfully to be proficient in English before applying for a CDL. Drivers who believe they are actually eligible for a CDL may appeal their revocation.

The law will also issue a fine of $50,000 to any trucking companies found hiring illegal immigrant truck drivers, and to any CDL schools issuing licenses to illegal immigrants. Under the new law, the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles will also be required to regularly touch base with the Department of Homeland Security to flag drivers that may be at risk of having their CDLs revoked.

“If you don’t want to come here the right way, if you don’t want to follow our laws, and if you don’t want to be American, get the hell out,” Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita said to NewsNation.

“And if they really want to be a truck driver, and they’re really not an illegal alien and they really can speak English and they really are otherwise qualified, they’ll get their license back.”
