New York State Police (NYSP) took part in a commercial vehicle enforcement detail intended to stop bridge strikes.
From July 26 through July 30, 2026, NYSP Troop L Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit (CVEU) took part in a statewide Bridge Hit Mitigation Enforcement Campaign, with a focus on Long Island Parkways.

“The initiative focused on reducing bridge and overpass strikes involving commercial motor vehicles through education and targeted enforcement. Commercial vehicles are prohibited from traveling on Long Island Parkways, which were designed for passenger vehicles and may have low bridge clearances,” NYSP said.

Also as part of the operation, troopers handed out educational materials reminding truckers that they could face a fine up to $10,000 for a bridge strike.

NYSP also conducted recent commercial vehicle enforcement on the Taconic State Parkway, resulting in 114 citations for violations of Parkway Rules and Regulations prohibiting commercial vehicles from operating on the Parkway system.
