Ohio DPS uncovers 30 years of identity fraud by driver in I-71 crash that killed family of three

A truck driver charged with rear ending slowed traffic on Interstate 71 in Ohio is now accused of 30 years of identity fraud by the Ohio Department of Public Safety.

50-year-old Modou Ngom was arrested for an April 11th crash near Columbus, Ohio after slamming into slowed traffic in a construction zone. Two parents and their young son were killed in the crash. Now, the Ohio DPS has launched an investigation that shows Ngom may have been involved in 30 years of identity fraud since entering the United States in the 90s.

According to 10WBNS, during the crash investigation, authorities discovered conflicting information regarding Ngom’s identity in state and federal records. Investigators now believe that Ngom entered the US in the 90s, and soon used multiple names and dates of birth to get his state and federal identification cards.

The evidence shows that Ngom fraudulently obtained his drivers license in 2003, and fraudulently obtained his CDL in 2007 using a different identity. He was then naturalized as a US citizen in the mid-2010s using the same identity he used to obtain a CDL. Ngom reportedly changed his name back to Modou Ngom in 2015.

Ohio Department of Public Safety Director Andy Wilson says that he has since instructed state investigators to hand all of their findings over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations. . The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Ohio and the Delaware County Prosecutor’s Office were also notified.

Ngom is currently being held in the Delaware County Jail. He has pleaded not guilty to three counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and four counts of vehicular assault.
