‘Revert to paper logs’: FMCSA revokes 10 ELDs for failure to meet minimum standards

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) removed 10 electronic logging devices (ELDs) from the agency’s list of approved devices.

On July 9, 2026, FMCSA added the following ELDs to the agency’s list of Revoked Devices for failure to meet minimum requirements:

Carriers using one of these ELDs will have 60 days to replace the revoked device with an approved ELD. In the meantime, drivers should discontinue use of the revoked ELDs and revert to paper logs or logging software to record required hours of service data.

Starting on September 8, 2026, if a truck driver is still using one of the revoked ELDs, law enforcement will cite the driver for “No record of duty status” and place the driver out-of-service.

“We will continue to take decisive enforcement action to ensure that only compliant, reliable devices are used on our nation’s roadways. Accurate hours-of-service records are essential to protecting public safety, supporting fair enforcement, and ensuring accountability across the commercial motor vehicle industry,” said FMCSA Administrator Derek D. Barrs.

With this round of ELD revocations, the FMCSA has now removed 90 ELDs from the list of approved devices since January 2025.

In December 2025, FMCSA said that reforms were in the works for the ELD vetting process so that non-compliant devices never make it to the Registered ELD list in the first place.
