A trucker’s wife has started a GoFundMe after her husband was killed by a lightning strike in a gas station parking lot earlier this month.
The incident happened on April 16th in a gas station parking lot in Waukesha County, Wisconsin off of Interstate 94 near Golf Road.
According to TMJ4, police were called during a thunder storm after another gas station patron noticed a man lying on the ground. Emergency responders arrived but were unable to save truck driver Pete Garamone. The National Weather Service has since confirmed a lightning strike in the area.
Garamone’s wife, Lisa Cox, says that she didn’t believe it the first time she was told the news of her husband’s unusual death.
“I hung up on the doctor because I didn’t believe her. And, I started calling my husband’s cell phone, and the police picked up,” Cox said.
Garamone leaves behind a 7-year-old son. The family lives in York, Pennsylvania.
“He was my son’s best friend, and my son was his best friend. They were so close. He was a strong guy, he was an extremely hard worker for his family, for our son and me,” Cox added.
Now, Cox wants to warn people to take weather warnings seriously, and has set up a GoFundMe to help pay for the unexpected expenses that came with her husband’s death.
“Anything can happen. Any day at any time. Don’t take your loved ones for granted. Always remember, always enjoy, always make sure you say goodbye, give them a hug, give them a kiss,” she said.
