The Wisconsin State Patrol (WSP) will be taking part in a “Trooper in a Truck” enforcement campaign this week.
The WSP will take part in the annual Trooper in a Truck operation from July 13 — 17.
“State Patrol troopers and inspectors work regularly to enforce traffic laws to reduce crashes involving CMVs. During this detail, officers will be on high alert for dangerous driving on the highway with a focus on drivers near CMVs,” said the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
The Trooper in a Truck patrols will take place in the following locations:
In partnership with the Wisconsin Motor Carriers Association (WMCA), troopers will ride along in semi trucks and buses and use the height advantage to spot risky driving behaviors like texting, following too closely, speeding, aggressive driving, and seatbelt violations. If a violation is spotted, the trooper in the truck will radio to officers in marked patrol vehicles who can then perform a traffic stop and issue a warning or citation.
“This is the sixth year of our Trooper in a Truck campaign, and it wouldn’t be possible without our longstanding partnership with the WMCA,” WSP Superintendent Tim Carnahan said. “This initiative is about leveraging partnerships and combining efforts to achieve a shared goal–preventing dangerous driving behaviors on Wisconsin roads.”
“Trooper in a Truck details have been very successful in past years, and we have drivers who look forward to the initiative every year,” WMCA President Dan Johnson said. “We’re incredibly grateful for the partners who donate equipment and drivers to support the effort. We all have to work together to make our roads safer.”
The WSP Trooper in a Truck detail coincides with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s (CVSA) Operation Safe Driver Week campaign taking place throughout North America July 12 — 18, 2026.
