Tennessee traffic cams catch trucker taking runaway ramp

Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) traffic cameras were rolling to catch the moment that a semi truck driver took a runaway ramp.

The video was reportedly captured shortly before 6 p.m. on October 25, 2024, on eastbound I-24 at mile marker 139.2 in Marion, Tennessee.

In the video, you can see what appears to be a loaded flatbed truck steering off I-24 and taking the ramp. The truck kicks up a major cloud of dust as it flies up the ramp, but the driver manages to keep the truck upright.

There is a 6% grade on eastbound I-24 descending Monteagle Mountain, and runaway trucks are not uncommon in the area. 

A similar incident occurred at this location earlier this year. In this case, though, a semi truck taking the ramp took an unsuspecting motorist along for the ride.
