Driver “thinks he fell asleep” in moments before four-vehicle wreck

A truck driver told police that he believes he fell asleep in the moments before a multi vehicle crash in Florida on Wednesday morning.

The accident happened on November 20th in Escambia County, Florida on Interstate 10 west at around 8 a.m.

According to ABC 7, the 46-year-old unnamed truck driver went off the roadway while hauling cranberry juice, causing a sedan driven by a 93-year-old motorist to collide with the rig. The sedan then struck an SUV.

A quarter mile east, a second semi truck driven by a 34-year-old woman then tried to stop for the traffic caused by the wreck but was unsuccessful, causing the semi truck to jackknife in the center median.

The driver hauling cranberry juice told the Florida Highway Patrol that he thinks he fell asleep and went off the roadway to the left,” which is what led to the wreck.

No injuries were reported in the accident, which is still being investigated.
