First of three victims in fatal u-turn crash to be buried this weekend

The first of three victims killed in the now-infamous illegal u-turn crash in Florida last month will be buried by his family this weekend.

Haitian National Rodrigue Dor was one of three people killed in the accident with a semi truck driven by Harjinder Singh. A funeral and service is planned for Saturday, September 20th at the Haitian Evangelical Baptist Church, 14455 Memorial Hwy., near North Miami, Florida. The funeral will be followed by his interment at Vista Memorial Gardens in Miami Lakes. Medical examiners say all three bodies went unclaimed for an unusual period of time.

“Rodrigue was a man who loved people, who liked being around peaceful surroundings and enjoyed being around people who were happy,” said Myrlande St. Fleur, Dor’s mother.

Dor’s family says that he never planned to stay in the United States, and always planned to return to Haiti, where his daughters still live. The family says that the daughters will be unable to attend the funeral due to issues with the embassy in Haiti, reported the Miami Herald.

“He violated the law,” Dor’s sister said of Singh. “He wasn’t supposed to make a U-turn the way he did it. We need justice. We ask for justice.”

Singh is facing three counts of vehicular homicide and three counts of manslaughter – one for each of the three victims. He is being held without bond in the St. Lucie County Jail as he awaits trial.
