Oklahoma State Troopers are saying that icy road conditions may have been the cause of a fatal accident that occurred yesterday on U.S. 68/U.S. 75 along the Red River Bridge – between Texas and Oklahoma.

An accident, involving two tractor-trailers and an SUV resulted in the death of three motorists on Sunday night. The driver of a southbound SUV lost control, striking the bridge, bouncing to the guardrail on the other side, and striking a tractor-trailer. The two vehicles separated, and the SUV was struck by a second tractor-trailer, which pushed the SUV to a resting position.
The victims were identified as 40-year-old Juan Garcia of Miami, Oklahoma, his passenger 70-year-old Anita Mayorga, and a juvenile, also from Miami. The driver’s spouse, 38-year-old Eugenia Garcia, passenger, 46-year-old Rosalinda Alaniz, and another juvenile were hospitalized (they are all currently in stable condition). There were a total of nine people in the vehicle at the time of the accident, five of those individuals were children.
Missouri truck driver Alvin Prescott, 66, and Illinois driver, Jeremy Greene, 42, were also involved in the incident – both were uninjured, and are reported to be doing okay.
The bridge was re-opened at 1:00 a.m. on Monday morning, after being closed for nearly five hours.
