I-5 shooter still at large, more than a dozen vehicles targeted

Oregon State Police (OSP) have issued a new warning after a shooter continues to take aim at vehicles on a busy interstate.

OSP issued an initial warning on July 14 about a shooter targeting vehicles traveling on I-5 between Roseburg and Grants Pass. At that time, OSP said that “5 vehicles that have been struck by bullets on Interstate 5 between milepost 67 and 100.”

At least one of the vehicles targeted by the shooter was a semi truck, according to local news outlet Fox 26.

On August 11, OSP issued a new warning indicating that the I-5 shooter is still at large and has opened fire on more vehicles in a larger area.

From the time of the first request for assistance on July 14, 2020 several additional vehicles have been confirmed to have been struck by bullets.

Previously only Douglas and Josephine Counties had confirmed bullet strikes. The geographic location has been expanded to include Jackson County.

No injuries have been reported.

Troopers say that eight additional vehicles have been hit by gunfire, bringing the total of known shooting incidents to 13.

OSP says that any driver traveling on I-5 who believes they have been shot at should call 911. The driver is asked to note the time and location of the shooting and to travel out of the area if possible.

In recent months, a number of highway shootings targeting truckers have been reported. Shootings targeting truckers have occurred on I-94 in Michigan and WisconsinI-40 in Memphis, I-70 in Ohio and I-70 in Kansas.
