“Aggressive” Motorist Killed After Passing Semi On Shoulder, Going Airborne

A man was killed after losing control while passing a semi truck on the shoulder, sending his vehicle airborne before crashing onto the road below.

The crash happened today around 7:30 a.m. on I-76 near Denver.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, a pickup truck driver was spotted “was weaving through traffic and passing in a very aggressive manner” in the westbound lanes of the interstate. Witnesses told police that the pickup was speeding and passing cars on the shoulder.

A semi truck was driving in the left lane of the interstate nearing the bridge over York Street when the pickup approached. The pickup passed the semi on the left shoulder and lost control. The pickup crashed through the guardrail and went airborne before landing on its roof on York Street below.

The roof of the pickup truck collapsed as the vehicle landed.

The driver of the truck was killed in the crash. The man’s wife and two grade school aged children were seriously injured.

The semi was not hit by the pickup and the truck driver did not stop. Colorado State Troopers are seeking that truck driver.

The incident is being investigated as a suspected road rage case.
