Two dead, 46 hurt, in I-80 pileup involving multiple big rigs

Snow squall conditions were reported at the time of the pileup.

Authorities in Pennsylvania say that two people have died following a chain-reaction crash on Wednesday that leaves a portion of I-80 shut down on Thursday morning.

The crash occurred around 1 p.m. on Wednesday in White Deer Township in central Pennsylvania during snow squall conditions that made roads slick and limited visibility.

Police say that 20 to 30 vehicles collided in the westbound lanes of I-80 during the pileup, including several semi trucks.

One man died at the scene of the crash. Another man passed away at the hospital on Wednesday evening.

At least 46 people were taken to the hospital for treatment of various injuries, PennLive reports.
