Police officer survives being pinned beneath second truck’s tires while responding to initial crash

Published:

A police officer is expected to survive after getting pinned beneath the tires of a tractor trailer that slid off the road in icy condition.

The accident happened on Tuesday, January 31st in Travis County, Texas outside of Austin just before 9 a.m. in the 9300 block of State Highway 130 going northbound.

According to KCENTV News, the deputy had pulled over and was out of his vehicle assisting a truck driver who had gone off the roadway when a second semi truck skidded off the road and struck the officer. The impact pinned the officer beneath one of the truck tires.

First responders arrived and got the officer unpinned just after 9:30 a.m. and he was taken to a nearby hospital for surgery. He is expected to survive.

“I want to offer my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who responded and assisted this deputy in his time of dire need,” said TCSO Sheriff Sally Hernandez. “Both his biological and TCSO family are relieved and thankful that he’s alive. Please, please don’t drive on these icy roadways. It’s not worth your life or the lives of the first responders who are literally putting their personal safety on the line.”

The identity of the deputy has not been released. It is unclear if the truck driver was cited following the incident.
