The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is reminding drivers of the dangers of over-reliance on GPS devices after a semi truck became stuck on a dirt road last week.
The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on October 22.
A semi truck driver using US-101 Cuesta Grade left the highway under directions from a GPS device and turned off onto Stagecoach Road, which CHP describes as “not a paved roadway it is an extremely uneven dirt road that is not maintained.”
According to The Tribune, it took a tow truck 10 hours to remove the stuck semi. The incident was finally cleared around 9:45 a.m. the next day.
“Trucker warning: please do not follow GPS directions onto Stagecoach Road, stay on US-101 Cuesta Grade. This will not end well for any larger vehicles, very costly and lengthy recovery,” said CHP – San Luis Obispo.
