Motorist wanted in murder of trucker found in cab believed to have followed semi for 60 miles in Utah alone

Published:

Utah police have issued a warrant for a suspect after a semi truck driver was found dead inside his vehicle along I-80 in Tooele County late last month.

Homicide, Kidnapping Charges Filed

On October 15, the Tooele County Attorney’s Office filed charges against Jaswinder Singh Dhillon, 46, of Washington State. Charges include criminal homicide, aggravated murder, and aggravated kidnapping.

Dhillon is wanted in the death of California-based truck driver Jaspinder Singh, who was found deceased in the cab of his truck parked on an I-80 ramp in the Delle, Utah, area on September 26. He had lacerations on his neck and legs, police say.

Singh’s co-worker called police after noticing that the truck’s GPS wasn’t moving and stopping to check on him. Singh was found unresponsive in the sleeper berth area of the cab.

Surveillance Video From Utah Suggests Semi Pursued By Suspect In Mercedes

After the death was deemed suspicious, police obtained surveillance video, dash cam video, and other evidence.

According to charging documents, at around 2:31 a.m. on September 26, Singh’s semi truck was caught on camera at a Port of Entry in Wendover, Utah. Thirty seconds later, a light-colored Mercedes sedan was caught by the same Port of Entry camera.

Around 3:30 a.m. Singh’s semi was spotted by surveillance cameras at a Sinclair gas station in Delle. Less than a minute later, cameras captured the light-colored Mercedes driving slowly through the gas station parking lot, then following the semi onto the I-80 off-ramp.

This info indicates the Mercedes remained behind or near the semi for a distance of over 60 miles in Utah alone” charging documents state.

After the vehicles were parked along the ramp, cameras captured a hooded figure exiting the Mercedes and walking towards the semi truck.

Vehicles Also Spotted At Nevada Gas Stations

Hours prior, the vehicles were both spotted together in multiple locations in Nevada.

On September 25 at 6:33 p.m., a license plate reader in Reno, Nevada, registered Singh’s semi. At 6:34 p.m. the same plate reader registered the Mercedes.

According to KSL, Singh made a stop at a gas station in Wells, Nevada. While Singh was inside the store, surveillance video shows the Mercedes in the parking lot. After the Mercedes parked outside of the view of the camera, a hooded figure is seen walking around the front of the store.

Video from a gas station in Winnemucca, Nevada, shows a similar interaction. Singh’s truck enters the gas station, and the Mercedes is seen following the semi into the same location. This time, investigators say that driver of the Mercedes is seen fueling up, then following the semi from the gas station when it leaves.

Investigators were able to determine that the Mercedes was registered to Jaswinder Dhillon, and Uber, his employer, confirmed that the light-colored Mercedes belongs to Dhillon.

A no-bail warrant has been issued for Dhillon, but it is not clear whether he is in police custody at this time.

This is a developing story.
