HHG Association Files for HOS Exemption

Published:

According to an the FMCSA’s Federal Register Notice, the American Moving and Storage Association (AMSA) has filed for a exemption from the 14-hour rule.

“AMSA has applied for an exemption for its 3,700 member companies from FMCSA’s regulation prohibiting operators of commercial motor vehicles (CMVs) from driving following the 14th hour after coming on duty,” the Federal Register states.

AMSA explains that the exemption would enable AMSA drivers to drive their CMVs away from residential areas, where they’ve been either loading or unloading household goods, to the nearest truck parking area.

The petition states that the drivers would not be permitted to drive more than 75 miles or 90 minutes after the 14th hour.

The FMCSA is seeking public input on the request for exemption.  All comments must be received on or before October 9, 2014.
