No Ticket For Trucker Who Fled After Almost Hitting Texas Police

Published:

Lufkin police have located the truck driver who was caught on video coming frighteningly close to hitting two officers and a motorist and before fleeing the scene.

The incident happened around 9:30 Monday morning when the officers were waiting with a motorist who had driven into a ditch. A truck came over a hill at a high rate of speed, appeared to spot the men, and slammed on his brakes, causing his trailer to swerve towards them.

The men suffered minor injuries as they dove for cover. The truck driver did not stop.

Within hours of releasing video of the incident, a Texas Department of Public Safety officer identified the truck driver, who said that his brakes locked up when he tried to stop. The driver told the officer that he was sorry several times and admitted that he was scared. He said that he did not see the men dive into the wooded area or he would have stopped to make sure no one was hurt.

Lufkin police were content to chalk the incident up to being a learning experience. They did not cite the truck driver for failure to control his speed.
