The Nebraska State Patrol has announced that it will team up with the Nebraska Trucking Association for a new safety program that will put troopers in trucks to spot unsafe driving behavior.
As part of the statewide programs, troopers will ride along with truckers in order to look for risky driving behaviors like texting and speeding.
If the trooper spots one of these behaviors, he will then radio another trooper in marked patrol vehicle who can stop the car to issue warnings or citations.
Lieutenant Kurt Von Minden reported that, “having eyes in commercial motor vehicles allows us to see things we wouldn’t normally see from a marked patrol unit. It’s also an invaluable tool to work with truckers to help tackle the issue of public safety on our roadways. We’re very grateful for the relationship we have with the trucking industry, and value their help.”
