Bicyclist who seems to want to get hit by a semi will make you want to buy a dash cam

Nebraska police have released dash cam video of a semi truck driver’s frightening encounter with a suspected drunk bicycle rider.

The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office shared forward and driver facing dash cam video of a semi truck vs. bicycle crash that happened earlier this week.

They wrote in a Facebook post:

On Sunday, May 5th, at approximately 5:55 pm deputies were dispatched to a personal injury accident at Hwy 75 and Fox Farm Road (just south) involving a semi-tractor trailer and a bicyclist. Upon arrival deputies determined the cyclist was operating his bicycle northbound on Hwy 75 on the shoulder in an erratic manner causing motorists to slow and merge left to the inside lane out of fear of cyclist swerving into the lane of traffic. A northbound semi-tractor trailer observed the cyclist, therefore he slowed and changed into the inside lane when the cyclist suddenly swerved the bicycle into the path of the semi striking the semi on the front passenger corner. The impact caused the bicycle to crumple around the cyclist; the cyclist impacted the pavement with his head causing head trauma. The cyclist was transported to UNMC with serious injuries. Alcohol appears to be a contributing factor on behalf of the cyclist.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Wayne Hudson told KETV that “This individual went from the shoulder of the road all the way across to the far north lane … It appears the semi truck driver did everything he could to avoid the accident.”
