The Iowa Department of Transportation shared footage of a suspected distracted driving multi-vehicle crash that could have been much worse had the truckers behind the crash not been paying attention.
The video was shared by IowaDOT on September 24.
The agency wrote:
Taking your eyes off the road, just for a few seconds can result in this…
Miraculously, no one was seriously injured in this crash last Friday (9/20/2019) on U.S. 20 near Waterloo, but it’s a wake-up call for all of us to put your phone away & pay attention to what’s ahead.
In the video clip, an apparently distracted motorist fails to notice slowed traffic and plows into the cars ahead, appearing to send them into the trailer of a stopped semi truck. The truckers in traffic behind the crash have only moments to react but they manage to move over into the other lane and bring their trucks to a stop, preventing what could have been a deadly crash.
