Trucker teams up with Cedar Rapids firefighters to donate hundreds of pounds of undeliverable Italian sausage to charity

Published:

On Wednesday, the Cedar Rapids Fire Department (CRFD) helped a truck driver donate hundreds of pounds of sausage to a local Salvation Army.

According to CRFD, on Wednesday morning Captain Terry McAtee received a call about a truck driver who had 500 pounds of Italian sausage that could not be delivered to a customer.

“The semi was being reconfigured and the refrigeration unit needed to be turned off. Quick thinking led the crew to make a hasty, tasty delivery to The Salvation Army – Cedar Rapids, IA,” CRFD said in a social media post.

“Kitchen Manager, Misty Newman, was excited to see the extra supplies and was already thinking of recipes that called for LOTS of sausage,” CRFD noted.

CRFD shared several photos of firefighters working to move the sausage to the Salvation Army kitchen.
