Q&A with CDLLife
In a paragraph or two, take some time and tell our readers a little bit about your company. In other words, who are you and what do you do?
We’re proud of our humble beginnings when, in 1986, the Parker family started Covenant Transport with just 25 trucks and 50 trailers. Today, we’re focused on leading the industry with quality and integrity.
Our driving force is our people – which is why we stand by our commitment to C.A.R.E. This emphasis on Communication, Attitude, Respect, and Excellence highlights the culture we’ve built from the ground up to be a “home away from home” for all our employees.
In your mind, what makes your company unique from all of the other trucking companies that exist?
Quality and Integrity. We deliver. Covenant transport is leading the industry with a comprehensive set of truckload services to fit your many transportation needs.
Covenant leadership, driving force and staff live out a strong code of conduct on a daily basis. That includes treating each other with the respect and support we want accorded to ourselves. We take ownership of any failures and make adjustments for the future.
With there being so much competition between trucking companies for experienced drivers why should a prospective driver consider working for your company as opposed to all of the other trucking companies that are looking to hire drivers?

We have honored these men and women by creating the “Freedom Fleet”. Each veteran and active service person receives the Freedom Fleet decal for their truck so we can easily recognize and show our appreciation to you.
What can you tell our readers about the culture of your company?
Living and working according three guiding principles helps Covenant Transport build a culture of acceptance, support, selflessness and personal success.
1) Treating others the same way that you want to be treated.
2) Putting others before yourself.
3) Acting with integrity, honesty and fairness in all of your business dealings, both with customers, vendors and your fellow employees

17% of Covenant’s driving fleet are females. We believe this represents the largest female driving population in the industry. Women of Covenant is the name of our internal group that encourages community and communication for our female drivers. Teaming and Safety are often the main reasons given as to why they choose Covenant.
Most of our readers of very aware of the turnover problem that exists within the trucking industry. Generally, what is your company’s thoughts on driver turnover and what is your company doing to reduce the turnover rate at your organization?
The key to reducing turnover is setting the right expectation up front. Our recruiters are trained to be very clear when it comes to the job we offer at Covenant. There are 2 main parts to our job: 1) we are teaming company and 2) we are an OTR company. There shouldn’t be anyone coming to orientation that is expecting a solo position or expecting to be home more than every 2 weeks. Setting the correct expectation is extremely important and we certainly try to do this with everyone we talk to.
