Questions and Answers about America's Service Line
- General Questions
Is the company privately or publicly held?
We are the private fleet for American Foods Group.
How many total employees does the company have?
Our fleet is made up of 300+ trucks and supporting office and shop personnel.
How many drivers does the company currently have?
250
What is the company’s turnover rate?
Less than 20%! Our drivers find us and make it their home! We have drivers that have been here upwards of 20+ years.
How many empty trucks does the company have right now?
Less than 10. We do not bulk hire. It's more important for us to have the right candidate that fits our team.
If the company has a lot of empty trucks it might be a sign that more drivers are quitting than they are able to hire?
Sometimes, but we like to look at the big picture. Every company is unique and so is every driver!
How many terminals does the company have and where are they?
We have two terminals currently. One in Green Bay, WI and one in Grand Island, NE. We also use portions of yards in Kenosha, WI, New Jersey, and Chicago, IL, to stage our loads.
How long has the average driver been with the company?
Our drivers have an average tenure of 5+ years.
What is the passenger policy?
We like to have our drivers with us for a full 90 days before we have them bring a friend. However, when they are ready, we have them reach out to our safety team to file an insurance waver. In the summer, we lower our age requirement a bit to give kids on vacation a chance to hit the road with family.
What is the pet policy?
We love our furry co-pilots! We have a deposit that can be taken out inclemently to cover any cleaning fees that may happen down the road.
- Operational Questions
What kinds of freight does the company haul?
All refrigerated. Primarily beef. Boxed and ready to be sold at stores nationwide. We also haul some produce, beverages, pork, seafood, and other consumables.
In what states does the company operate in the most?
We have several processing locations throughout the Midwest. That means we go to Long Prairie, MN, Green Bay, WI, Omaha, NE, and Wright City, MO. We also frequent areas of OH, MI, IN, IL, IA, KY, PA, and more!
What is the ratio of driver managers to drivers?
We like our Driver Managers to know each of our drivers and have the time needed to devote to them. That means low numbers on each Driver Manager's board so you can talk to your Driver Manager quickly when needed.
What is the ratio of load planners to trucks?
We are a smaller company. We have six or so load planners to handle the planning needs of our group across both locations.
What is the average length of load?
We aren't long haul. We aren't short haul. We find that we can service our customers quickly and efficiently and sometimes that means in shorter stints. We like to think we find the balance between long and short to make our customers and drivers happy.
What is the average # of miles per tractor?
Right now, we are seeing between 2400 and 2600 miles per week on the average truck. Does that mean you can do more? Sure! We just like to supply the average so we aren't over promising.
How are the drivers’ miles calculated? (Short Miles, Practical Mileage, Household Movers Guide)
Practical! If you find yourself in a designated city, you may even move to hourly! (Chicago, etc.)
What percent of your freight is Drop and Hook?
In having multi-stop loads, it's a pretty good mix. Pick up a preloaded trailer from one of our plants and you may find yourself on a 2 stop load on average.
Are drivers required to physically unload freight?
100% no touch freight. We hire lumpers for that. If something spills and we need help, we may ask you in a pinch to help secure your freight, but that really is the exception to the rule.
How many hours are free before the driver starts receiving detention time pay?
On our American Foods Group loads- ZERO. You read that right. It starts right away. On our other customer loads, that may be built into the contract. It could be two or three hours on average.
Is the company forced dispatch?
Yes, with the exception of New York City. We let our drivers opt out of that location. We also trust our drivers to know what is safe and unsafe and we listen to those concerns as they arise.
What happens if a driver refuses to take a dispatch for a legitimate reason?
We talk about it and figure out a path forward. Safety first and always.
If the company uses e-log which system is used? People-Net, Qualcomm, etc?
We use Samsara for logging and Mcleod for dispatch. Each of our trucks is outfitted with a tablet for our driver's convenience.
- Equipment Questions
What type of trucks does the company use?
2023 and newer Kenworths and Freightliners. We rotate our equipment out at around 500,000-600,000 miles. We like to have the newest most trustworthy equipment on the road. That means when the warranty is up, we trade it out.
Do the trucks come equipped with APU’s?
Yep!
Do the trucks come equipped with power inverters?
Yep!
Does the company “slip seat” drivers or assign drivers to trucks?
We only slip seat our non-sleeper local shift trucks.
Do the trucks come equipped with refrigerators?
Yep!

How long is the company’s orientation process?
We send out some training before you arrive. Completing that online training helps save you time in the office and gets you out on the road much sooner! We have a two day orientation that our drivers are paid hourly for.

Yes! Hourly pay!
What method of travel does the company use? (Flight, Bus, Rental Car)
