Questions and Answers about NFI Industries
-
In a paragraph or two, take some time and tell our readers a little bit about your company. In other words, who are you and what do you do?
Since 1932, NFI has been a leader in transportation. Owned and operated by the Brown family for 3 generations, NFI has grown to nearly 4000 drivers and owner-operators. We specialize in short-and-medium haul dedicated fleets so our drivers can have set schedules and predictable home-time. We have a consistent focus on safety so our drivers can get home to the people that matter most in their lives.
How many terminals does your company have and where are they located?
NFI operates over 100 dedicated fleets across the USA and lower Canada. Our primary hubs are near Allentown PA, Newburgh NY, Dallas TX, Chicago IL, and Chino CA, and our fleets span everywhere in between.
In your mind, what makes your company unique from all of the other trucking companies that exist?
NFI is 100% Dedicated and 100% family-owned. Our focus on dedicated fleets means our drivers will have consistent pay, and predictable schedules and home time. Being 100% family-owned ensures that the decisions we make are in the best interest of our people, not the best interests of investors or Wall St.
With there being so much competition between trucking companies for experienced drivers why should a prospective driver consider working for your company as opposed to all of the other trucking companies that are looking to hire drivers?
At NFI, you'll be working with a dedicated operations team that you see on a daily and weekly basis. If there's an issue with your schedule, you work directly with your on-site Planner. If there's a question about your pay, you work directly with your on-site Payroll Coordinator. You're not a Truck Number or Driver Code sitting on the other side of a computer screen. You're part of an operations team where relationships matter.
What can you tell our readers about the culture of your company?
NFI's culture is both people-focused and customer-focused. Since we are 100% dedicated, our people are an extension of our customers. Every NFI driver is assigned to a specific customer location, and the input we receive from our drivers gets shared with our customers so we can continuously improve the operation.
Most of our readers of very aware of the turnover problem that exists within the trucking industry. Generally, what is your company’s thoughts on driver turnover and what is your company doing to reduce the turnover rate at your organization?
Year after year, NFI has one of the lowest turnover percentages in trucking. We truly believe that when our people are treated with RESPECT, when they've been given a well-maintained truck to do their job, and they have the ability to earn a consistent paycheck every week, there are very few reasons to leave.
What type of equipment does your company operate?
NFI primarily operates Volvo VNL sleepers, Freightliner Cascadia sleepers and daycabs, and some International Prostar daycabs.
What type of freight does your company haul?
NFI runs a variety of different dedicated fleets including grocery, food & beverage, beer, retail, consumer goods, building supplies, and paper products.
What’s the typical running area that your company operates in?
NFI's dedicated fleets operate across the country, with major hubs in Allentown PA, Newburgh NY, Dallas TX, Chicago IL, and Chino CA.
As best as you can, can you summarize all of the different truck driving jobs that your company is hiring for?
NFI has dedicated company driver jobs including local spotting & shuttles, short-haul (home daily), regional (home every 2-3 days) and long-haul (home weekly). We also run TEAM routes starting on the West Coast (Southern & Northern California), Midwest (Chicago, Indianapolis) and East Coast (Pittston PA, Lakeland FL). We also have Owner-Operator routes for solos and teams. Our Owner-Operator routes also range from short-haul (home daily), regional (home every 2-3 days), and long-haul (home weekly or every other week). NFI's dedicated fleets run many different types of trailers. We operate over 1000 refrigerated trailers, 250 flatbeds, 200 rollerbeds, and 6000 dry vans.
Can you provide our readers with general information about how your company compensates drivers that work for you? What’s your payscale, what method does your company use to calculate pay, what do your top drivers earn, what can an average driver expect to make, etc.
Each dedicated fleet's pay scale is specific to the job and the work being done. Most of our accounts pay a combination of mileage pay and stop pay. We do have some accounts that pay hourly or by the trip. Most of our first-year drivers earn between $55k-$65k, depending on the account they're on. Our top earners make over $90k-$100k+ annually!
