Interstate 84 westbound is expected to be shut down for most of Wednesday after a semi truck wreck sparked a forest fire.
The accident happened at about 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13th on Interstate 84 between milepost 57 and milepost 62 west of Hood River in Oregon.
According to KGW 8, a semi truck hauling cardboard bales caught fire, which “quickly spread into the wildland.”
The fire was estimated to be about 2 acres, but was mostly extinguished by 4:30 a.m.
The eastbound lanes of I-84 have been reopened, but officials say that westbound I-84 will remain closed for “most of Wednesday” as crews work to extinguish the remaining flames and clear the roadway.
Drivers are advised to use the Hood River-White Salmon Interstate Bridge and SR-14 as an alternate route into Stevenson, Washington, and then use the Bridge of the Gods to travel back into Oregon.
