The internet-famous Camaro driver who tried to pass a pickup on the left shoulder before losing control and slamming into a truck has been indicted — in part thanks to the dash cam video.
Dash Cam Video Captures Drunken Driving Disaster
Motorist Tim Linton captured the dramatic incident on his dash cam on I-90 near Batavia, New York, last April.
Linton pulled over and called 911 after the crash. The Camaro driver, 32-year-old Kiran Thapa, was charged with aggravated DWI. State police say that Thapa’s BAC was .19% and that he was drinking in his car before he crashed. Linton uploaded his video to Youtube, where it has been viewed over 4 and a half million times.
Video Helped Build Case Against Driver Who Caused Trucker To Crash
Police say that the dash cam video was extremely helpful in building a case against Thapa. His charges now include six counts of second-degree reckless endangerment, DWI, aggravated DWI, and felony aggravated unlicensed operation.
Linton is a travelling salesman who installed the $40 dash cam for fun. He says now he keeps it rolling all the time and that it is the best $40 he has ever spent.
