Two people were killed and three others injured in a 12 vehicle crash on I-5 in Lacey, Washington, last night.
Jackknifed Truck Causes Traffic Chaos
The crash happened around 6 p.m. According to state police, a truck hauling produce was traveling north in the middle lane of I-5 when it came upon stopped traffic. The truck driver was unable to stop in time and jackknifed, then rolled over onto its passenger side. The trailer of the rolled truck fell on top of a sedan and pushed it into the back of another semi. Two of the people in the sedan were killed.
Wet Roads May Have Contributed To Crash
Investigators are still unsure whether the other vehicles were hit by the truck before it jackknifed or if they were struck by vehicles that the overturning truck hit.
Investigators are still looking into the cause of the crash. It is believed that the roads were wet when the crash occurred.
Three other people were taken to the hospital for crash related injuries.
The crash shut down all lanes of I-5 for hours. All lanes reopened early this morning.
