Trucker finds, stays with body found on highway until police arrive

Published:

A trucker stayed with the body of a man found dead on a Utah highway earlier this week.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 13th just before 3 a.m. in Knolls, Utah.

According to KJZZ News, Filiberto Tapia-Guerrero was in the car with his friends after a night of drinking when they got into an argument. The man’s friends say that Tapia-Guerrero tried to exit the vehicle “several times” while it was moving, and eventually exited the vehicle after the driver pulled over multiple times. Tapia-Guerrero then told his friends to leave him on the highway and that someone else was going to pick him up. Police believe Tapia-Guerrero must have been struck by a vehicle a short time later.

“Shortly after that is when dispatch received calls of a body in the roadway,” the public safety press release said.

An unidentified truck driver reportedly discovered the body and stayed with the deceased man until officers arrived.

The body initially remained unidentified, but when Tapia-Guerrero’s friends heard about a body found on the highway, they contacted police who then contacted the family who was then able to confirm Tapia-Guerrero’s identity.

The investigation is still ongoing.
