Coors Light semi truck crashes into Popeyes

Published:

A Coors Light semi truck crashed into a Popeyes restaurant after a collision at an intersection in Brooklyn on Wednesday night.

The accident happened on February 21st in the Brooklyn borough of New York City, New York at Metropolitan and Vandervoort Avenues.

According to CBS News, the tractor trailer lost control at an intersection and drove through a red light, striking a Subaru with a green light. The impact sent both vehicles into the Popeyes restaurant, shattering windows and doors.

The truck driver was taken to the hospital with possible head injuries. The motorist refused medical treatment for a possible hand injury. No other injuries were reported.

“I got out the car and I checked on the, obviously, the truck driver, asked if he was OK. I think he said his head hurt a little bit. I think he hit the windshield,” said Jacob Sanchez, the motorist in the accident.

Firefighters who responded to the scene say that the truck utilized compressed natural gas and one of the cylinders broke off during the accident. Crews worked to bleed the low-pressure lines from the tank and secure any leaks before towing the wrecked semi truck and car away from the scene.

“I’m still in shock. I’m still shaken. I was scared as hell. I thought we were going to explode. The gas station is right here. Anything could have sparked. It was traumatizing,” said one person who was inside of the restaurant at the time of the crash.

Officials have inspected the structure and determined it is safe to enter, but the owner says there is a lot of damage to fix before the restaurant can reopen.

No further information, such as whether any citations were issued, has been released.
