Truck driver Micael Aaron Jayne was taken into custody on Sunday, May 5th after fatally running over an officer during a traffic stop and then fleeing the scene on foot. Now, investigation has revealed that Jayne was previously convicted of trying to run an officer over.

According to KJZZ 14, Jayne attempted to kill an Oregon State Police officer on State Highway 66 by trying to run him over back in October of 2009. In 2010, he was convicted of attempted assault in the first degree and possessing body armor as a felon after pleading guilty to both counts. He was also charged with one count of attempted aggravated murder in relation to the incident, but was not convicted of that charge. Jayne had also been previously convicted of a felony in California, where he also threatened law enforcement officers.

Jayne was also reportedly involved in an incident in Kansas in July of 2012 that ended in him fleeing police in a stolen vehicle.

“A Kansas Highway Patrol trooper stopped Jayne just south of Stockton at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday for speeding and was given a name that turned out to be false,” the report read. “As the trooper started to approach the vehicle a second time, he sped away.”
