South Dakota Sheriff calls out illegal auto haul

The Fall River County Sheriff’s Office (FRSO) out of Hot Springs, South Dakota, is asking drivers towing vehicles to do it safely and legally after spotting an illegal combination out on the road.

In a June 16, 2023, social media post FRSO called out an unsafe and illegal auto transport effort.

From FCSO:

In case you are wondering. No, this is not a safe or legal way to tow vehicles.

32-22-9. Combination of vehicles of more than two units–Violation as misdemeanor.

Except as provided by §§ 32-19-8, 32-22-8.1, 32-22-10, 32-22-11, 32-22-12.1, and 32-22-12.2, any combination of vehicles consisting of more than two units, including a truck, tractor, or towing vehicle, may not operate on a public highway. A violation of this section is a Class 2 misdemeanor.

Many Facebook users responded to the post with comments about the tow “train.”

“See it all the time traveling at night usually towards Texas bout time someone started pulling em over they always super slow,” one person said.

“They all over the road! I see them a lot,” another commenter said.

“See it every day in Texas,” another person commented.
