Honest Truck Driver Claims Rogue Tire

Published:

Truck Loses Its TireOn Monday morning, a truck driver was traveling Interstate 76 in South Philadelphia, heading to New Jersey.  As the truck driver was headed along his route, he didn’t realize he left something behind.

At approximately 9:30 a.m., a tractor-trailer tire flew into the air and onto the the highway, hit a Honda Accord, catapulted back into the air and landed on the roof of  the Workforce Development Center at 1905 Vare Avenue, causing a gas leak and prompting an evacuation of the Development Center.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, the passenger of the Honda Accord was taken to the hospital for observation.

The truck the tire belonged to was no where to be found and police asked witnesses to come forward with any information that might lead to the identification of the truck.

“Then, later Monday afternoon, a truck driver called the state police, said Cpl. Gerard McShea, public information officer. He had arrived at his destination in New Jersey only to discover a tire was missing from his 18-wheeler. He called state police after hearing a news report about the rogue tire,” the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Cpl. McShea said the State Police are working to positively match the tire to the truck driver.  If a positive match is made, he said the truck driver will likely not face charges.

“We’re not really giving him a hard time – he actually called us,” McShea told the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The truck driver’s name has not been released.
