A trailer explosion that could be heard two miles away has prompted a multi-agency investigation that includes the FBI, Florida Department of Transportation, and the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.
Chemical Reaction Causes Trailer Full Of Metals To Explode
The explosion happened last night around 9 p.m. at the AAA Cooper Transportation center in northwestern Jacksonville, Florida. A trailer full of various metals was parked up against the building when it exploded, blowing part of the roof off and causing significant damage to the building’s interior.
The building was empty and no one was injured in the explosion.
The bomb squad was immediately called in, but after an initial investigation they determined that foul play was not suspected.
JFRD: Trailer Explosion Was Like “Acid Bomb”
According to the The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, said that the explosion was like an acid bomb, blowing out the sides of the truck and the rear doors off the trailer.
A trailer which contained similar metals was tracked down and determined not to be a hazard.
As is standard protocol for this type of incident, the FBI and Florida DOT are joining the investigation into the explosion.
