The Nebraska State Patrol conducted two more surprise truck inspection blitzes this week, placing dozens of trucks out of service.
NSP Places Nearly Half Of Inspected Truckers OOS
According to a news release from the NSP, troopers conducted surprise commercial vehicle inspections in Fremont on Tuesday. Officers from the NSP’s Metropolitan Aggressive and Prevention Selective (MAPS) Team inspected 65 trucks during the 1 day effort. Twenty-four of those trucks were placed out of service for safety issues including brake and tire violations. Four truck drivers were also ordered out of service during the surprise inspections. Three of those drivers did not have a CDL. The other truck driver was placed out of service for a no valid driver’s license violation.
NSP says that they discovered 201 violations during Tuesday’s truck inspection campaign and issued $3,385 in fines.
NSP has not yet issued an official release detailing yesterday’s surprise enforcement campaign, but they did take to Twitter to release the bare bones details. According to the NSP’s Carrier Enforcement Twitter account, the surprise enforcement campaign in Columbus yesterday led to 61 inspections. Thirty trucks were placed out of service. Inspectors discovered 237 violations and issued $3,775 worth of citations.
More Surprise Inspections Are Planned
NSP says that the surprise inspections are meant to “target commercial vehicles that might not travel outside the city or pass through weigh stations as part of their regular routes.”
In May, the MAPS team conducted three days of surprise inspections in a row. They targeted trucks in Lincoln on May 16, Omaha on May 17, and in Sarpy County on May 18. More surprise inspections are planned through the summer into the fall.
