Man arrested for assaulting trucker with thermos, stealing big rig, & crashing into 10 cars

Connecticut police have issued a slew of charges to a man who allegedly carjacked a semi truck and caused a multi-vehicle crash on Tuesday.

The incident occurred during the evening rush hour on I-95 near Exit 46 in New Haven, Connecticut.

Police say a suspect who was later identified as 50 year old Frank Montes-Rivera crashed a car at a gas station, then ran into the southbound lanes of I-95.

Montes-Rivera was reportedly able to gain control of a tractor trailer by striking the driver multiple times with a metal thermos and then pushing him out of the vehicle, according to local outlet Fox 61.

Montes-Rivera struck 10 vehicles in traffic before coming to a stop against a guardrail on the right shoulder.

A Connecticut State Police trooper approached Montes-Rivera from the passenger side of the truck. Montes-Rivera was tased after lunging at the trooper.

Montes-Rivera fought with troopers attempting to take him into custody and attempted to break an officer’s gun holster.

He was eventually arrested and taken to the hospital.

One of the arresting officers and the truck driver were also hospitalized for minor injuries.

Police believe that Montes-Rivera was under the influence of narcotics.

Montes-Rivera was issued multiple charges, including Robbery by Carjacking, Interfering with an Officer, Assault on Public Safety, Breach of Peace 2nd Degree, Disorderly Conduct, Assault 2nd Degree, Assault 2nd Degree with a Motor Vehicle, and Reckless Endangerment 1st Degree.
