Hey there truck drivers. Looking for a bit of tentpole entertainment on the cheap this Spring? If you’re into sci-fi, it’s hard to do better than the new franchise reboot of Star Trek.
Many film geeks were sweating the details ever since the announcement of a sequel to J.J. Abrams reboot of the classic franchise, which made great strides at the box office and with new and classic fans alike. The big question this time around was, “Would the second installment feature a re-appearance of the villainous favorite Khan?” Well, no one is saying for sure. It’s 50/50.
This may come as a disappointment to the rabid fanbase of the classic 80s film The Wrath of Khan, but it does provide an interesting premise, courtesy of British actor Benedict Cumberbatch. His as yet unnamed “villain” isn’t inherently dastardly, as the villains in Star Trek usually are. He’s more of an enigma. As the Star Trek trailer says, he’s coming back from…somewhere.
Aside from that, all the reboot actors are back in place. You can see John Cho (Sulu), Chris Pine (Capt. Kirk), Zachary Quinto (Spock) and Simon Pegg (Scotty) pulling out all the stops as they create some epic action.
