VIDEO: North Dakota Train Car Derails And Explodes

Published:

A huge explosion occurred near Casselton, North Dakota this afternoon around 2:10 p.m., due to the derailment of a BNSF freight train that is believed to have been carrying crude oil.

This footage of the train car explosion was recorded less than a mile away from the incident.

The cause of the derailment is not yet known, but the responding fire department is waiting for the affected train cars to burn themselves out. This should prevent the oil from causing environmental harm.

There were 110 tanker cars involved, as well as a number of grain cars near the freighter. It is currently believed that 7 to 8 of those cars actually derailed.
