Don’t forget — the annual Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance “Operation Safe Driver Week” is just days away.
Operation Safe Driver Week will take place in the U.S., Mexico, and Canada from October 16-22 this year. The law enforcement campaign is intended to reduce risky driving behaviors by both commercial vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers through increased law enforcement and education.
Operation Safe Driver Week activities include roadside inspections for truck drivers as well as increased law enforcement presence to enforce traffic laws.
During last year’s Operation Safe Driver Week, 21,012 trucks were pulled over and 19,480 inspections were performed.
Here are the top five types of citations issued to commercial vehicle drivers last year:
- 1. Size and weight violations
- 2. Speeding
- 3. Failure to wear a seatbelt
- 4. Failure to obey a traffic control device
- 5. Using a handheld phone while driving
